Founded in 1905, its birth was probably due to Nevada's legalization of gambling. The world saw how the city flourished from just a strip in the 1940's to one of the most popular vacation spots in the world. Until the 1970's when gambling was also legalized in Atlantic City, New Jersey Las Vegas did not have any serious competitors in America. As Atlantic City grew there came a competition that led to the expansion of what is now modern Las Vegas. A smaller crowd still visits the old nostalgic downtown area.

Now the older downtown area is having a form of revival with attempts to target a more upscale set of clients with the construction of an exclusive shopping mall and chic hotels. There is the proliferation of specialty restaurants that suit just about everybody's taste. And what is great is that most of them are open 24 hours a day.

If the visitor wants to see a show Las Vegas has them aplenty in almost all the casinos and is of the highest level of entertainment. For example one can check out Cirque du Soleil's "O" and "Mystere" and the hit "Mamma Mia". Even malls have their own special shows to amaze shoppers.

As the sun sets in Las Vegas the city seems to become even more alive. It is still known as the city that never sleeps and is still bursting with life with its lively nightclubbing. A visitor can light up the night with the numerous bars, lounges and clubs with no closing times!

Las Vegas is not only a destination where you stay in your hotel room. The city also offers diverse outdoor activities like golfing, walking, hiking, tourist spots to visit, strolling along the strip, or even take a helicopter ride to view the strip and surrounding areas of interest.

You can walk through the tunnel where tanks containing sharks enclose around you. Thankfully, they can only tap the tank.
